Biography
Murray Roberts is Head of Product for Ascentium Fiduciary, Funds and Private Client, based on the West Coast of the United States. He works cross-functionally with teams from across the business lines to develop, structure and roll out new products in the global funds, fiduciary and trusts space.
He also focuses on working with multinational corporations, investment funds and international high net worth families, and their legal and tax advisors, to structure and implement solutions through the British Virgin Islands (BVI), Cayman Islands, Cyprus, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the UK.
He has particular expertise in working with US-based private equity and venture capital funds to establish their global fund structures and manage their offshore compliance obligations. He also focuses on supporting US-based multinational corporations on their international expansion and cross-border transactions, including establishing, maintaining and reorganising their foreign subsidiaries.
A dual-qualified lawyer, Murray started his career working as a mergers & acquisitions lawyer in the London and Hong Kong offices of a major international law firm, before spending several years as a corporate lawyer in the BVI office of Harneys, our strategic alliance partner law firm. He also spent time heading the West Coast alternative investments desk at an international fund and corporate services provider in San Francisco.
Murray regularly writes and speaks on topical matters in the global financial services industry: he has been published by the International Financial Law Review, the American Bar Association’s Business Law Today, and The Mergers & Acquisitions Review; has addressed the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) USA; and has taught a class at the University of Southern California (USC) Gould School of Law on the role of international financial centres in cross-border business transactions. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Oxford.
