If you're a Cayman Financial Institution (FI), you need to appoint a Cayman-based Principal Point of Contact (PPoC) and register their details on the DITC Portal by 31 January 2027.
This requirement comes from the amended Common Reporting Standard (CRS). The Department for International Tax Cooperation (DITC) extended the deadline in its Industry Advisory of 21 January 2026. As we said at the time, the extension doesn't relax the rule. With only a few months to go, if you don't yet have a suitable Cayman-based contact, now is the time to act.
Your PPoC is the person or entity your FI authorises as its main contact with the Cayman Islands Tax Information Authority (through the DITC) on CRS matters. A PPoC can be an individual or a legal entity.
It applies to every Cayman FI that must register and maintain information on the DITC Portal, whether you registered last month or years ago.
If your FI is managed from outside the Cayman Islands, take particular note. Many FIs have relied on an off-island contact until now. They must appoint an eligible Cayman-based PPoC before the deadline.
The DITC has confirmed that:
The aim is to give the Tax Information Authority a contact it can reach locally. The details you provide must let the Authority contact your PPoC directly, and your PPoC must be able to receive official correspondence and reply promptly. If your PPoC details aren't sufficient, the DITC may reject your submission or follow up with you.
Appointing a PPoC isn't a one-off task. Whenever your PPoC or their contact details change, update the DITC Portal using the prescribed registration or change form.
If you leave it until January, you risk a last-minute rush and delays as the deadline gets close. CRS 2.0 is also bringing stronger controls, closer scrutiny of data quality and more robust enforcement, so it pays to get this right early.
