Enabling crisis response and communications at the speed of social media

World Vision is a Christian humanitarian charity that serves close to 100 million people in nearly 100 countries. Ascentium was tasked to create a social media hub to facilitate communications among the organization's far-reaching network of more than 3 million donors, supporters, and volunteers. It was imperative to create a space that would help World Vision respond to disasters with more speed and agility than a typical website.

The solution was a robust Facebook destination that launched in September 2009 and serves as a crucial hub of real-time, disaster-response communications. When a 7.0 magnitude earthquake devastated Haiti on January 12, 2010, the World Vision Facebook destination became a rallying point for building awareness, sharing information, and raising much-needed donations.

Today, the World Vision Facebook community of "fans" numbers nearly a quarter of a million. The site is just one example of how the immediacy of social media can make a significant difference when there’s not a moment to lose.
