Mobile Payments

Jupiter Research recently released a report stating that nearly half of all mobile phone users worldwide will pay for digital and physical goods with a mobile unit by 2014.  The report heralds growth of nearly 1 billion users comparative to 2010 users.

The report also found that segments such as ticketing and payments for physical goods are attributed to the adoption of apps coupled with the availability of variable platforms such as eBay and Amazon.  Payments have just recently (comparatively) become integrated into a wider mobile shopping experience, including browsing, couponing and advertising.

The report warned that lack of user support  and remnant industry privacy concerns could threaten and stymie the spread of mobile payments.   The forecasts provide a detailed, five-year regional assessment for mobile payments for digital, physical goods.  The report also included a case study from 1-800Flowers.com and answers the following questions:

  • How many mobile subscribers will make remote mobile payments over the next five years?
  • Which will be the leading regions in the market in 2014?
  • What will be the size of remote mobile payment transaction values?
  • What are the trends, drivers and constraints affecting the development of the market?
  • How are leading sellers of physical goods developing their mobile payment capabilities?
  • What will be the trends in digital goods transactions over the next five years?
