Motivating young readers with an immersive, multi-dimensional environment

Random House, the publisher of Dale E. Basye’s first children’s novel, Heck: Where the Bad Kids Go, wanted to engage young readers with a genuinely cool promotional site for the book’s launch. Ascentium unleashed a team of creative technologists who deployed CINEMA 4D animation and After Effects software to bring the eerie-but-fun underworld of Heck to life.

The highly entertaining and informative finished product, www.wherethebadkidsgo.com, is a seamless, topsy-turvy voyage to Heck and back. Site visitors can tour Heck, meet the book’s characters, read the author’s blog, buy the book, and download screensavers and the hilarious Heck theme song. The site features the fantastical and funny artwork of illustrator Bob Dob and cool interactive goodies like the "Which Circle?" quiz (discover which of the 9 circles of Heck you belong in!).

Using creativity, technology, and the power of communities, Ascentium reinvented the book promo site, delivering an interactive experience that engaged young readers and helped make the book launch a success.
