Going with the Urge to Code
Going with the Urge to Code
I had the urge to code and went with it - urge-to-code.com.
The idea of the site is to provide a resource devs can use when they want a project idea or technical challenge to help them learn a new technology. For now, it's just a big chunk of text with some simple styling...
Once I had this idea I decided to move quickly before my time was completely sucked away and I became busy with something else. To avoid stalling too long in building out the first release I've decided to experiment by starting with just the idea and seeding the concept out on the web. Moving forward I'll roll-out incremental changes, see what type of traffic and feedback I get, and grow the site organically. If I'm lucky, I won't be the only person giving me feedback!
There's more going on with this site than meets the eye, as a technologist I wanted to set the stage with a few things I'm going to dive into:
- .NET 4 using ASP.NET MVC 2
- Using the Spark view engine
- Building an HTML 5-compatible site
- Using Google Analytics for more than "just" page view tracking
This first version of the site implements everything above, albeit at the most basic level. I really wanted to do this so that I could ensure I understood the simple stuff before getting more complex.
Going forward, look for more posts related to this site and the technical learnings I know it will provide. I'm excited to see where the experiment leads.

According to this blog post http://www.youngprogrammer.com/?p=47 one of the ways that employers recognize great programmers is by their commitment to learning and testing out new technologies. It's great to see new resources out there that encourage that.
